By submitting this review, you agree to our terms and review guidelines. WRAT Wide Range Amplifier Technology : This technology uses low-negative-feedback circuit topology for accurate signal reproduction, improved dynamic signal-to-noise ratio, and better delivery of power peaks.
Data is converted between sampling points and these points are joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result is a virtually noiseless, smooth analog signal based on the digital source to bring out even the most subtle of nuances in your music, movie soundtracks and even MP3s.
Speaker Impedance: There is a menu adjustment for minimum speaker impedance. Once the system is setup, operation details volume for example are displayed on screen when using the composite or S-video inputs. Operation details are not displayed when watching a source using the component video or HDMI inputs. You can select a or aspect ratio for the monitor output so the menu is displayed properly to match your TV's screen.
You can choose from the following languages for the receiver's on-screen display menu - English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Swedish or Japanese.
Component Video Switching: In addition to composite and S-Video switching, this unit can switch between high resolution component video sources. There are 3 component video inputs and 1 component video monitor output. The component video inputs and outputs have a bandwidth of MHz. The HDMI cables will pass digital audio and video. The HQV Reon-VX chip provides the ultimate support for standard definition and high definition deinterlacing; p reconstruction of film sources; filtering of jaggies and artifacts; and the reduction of random, "mosquito" and block codec noise.
The receiver can also convert composite video and S-video signal to component if your television does not feature an HDMI input. RIHD provides the following integrated operations. HD Radio technology bring digital radio to conventional analog AM and FM radio stations with improved sound quality, better reception, and new data services. In addition, FM HD Radio stations can transmit multiple programs on the same frequency by using multicast channels.
HD Radio also features text data display which include station name, song title and artist name. HD Radio stations broadcast on the same AM and FM frequencies they've always used and you can receive them by tuning into your favorite station as normal. You can store them a presets just like standard AM and FM stations. Once the iPod is docked you can control basic functions such as volume control, play, stop, and skip via the Onkyo system's RI-compatible wireless remote control.
The dock also charges the battery in the iPod, and allows you to view digital photos and video on an Onkyo home theater system.
This technology detects speakers, and then sets levels, delays and crossovers, as well as measuring room acoustics. Using the receiver interface, it takes up to 8 measurements around the listening area and uses high-resolution equalization filters for satellites and subwoofers.
MultEQ XT covers both frequency response and time domain where most of the problems lie across the entire listening area. The results are immediately obvious - a clear, well-balanced and natural sound. With the supplied speaker setup microphone, Audyssey MultEQ XT can measure the number of speakers connected, their sizes, crossover frequencies, and distances from the listening position and calculate the optimal speaker settings for you automatically.
There is a threaded insert on the bottom of the microphone so it can be mounted on a tripod for accurate listening position placement. If you wish to setup the speakers manually, you can follow the procedure for Speaker Configuration. Speaker Distance: The distance from your listening position to each speaker can also be set manually.
The front speaker distance can be set from 1 to 30 feet in 1-foot increments. The center and subwoofer settings can be up to 5 feet more or 5 feet less than the distance you set for the front speakers 30 feet max. The settings for the surround left, surround right, surround back left, and surround back right speakers are each individually adjustable, and they may be up to 5 feet more or 15 feet less than the distance you set for the front speakers 30 feet max. Double Bass: You can increase the bass output by activating the Double Bass function.
This function feeds both the LFE and left and right channel bass output to the subwoofer. Double Bass can be set only when the subwoofer is set to On and the front speakers are set to Large.
The crossover points are set separately for the front, center, surround, surround back, and subwoofer channels. The sub crossover options are 80 THX , 90, , and Hz.
The center and surround speakers can also be turned off. The level can be set to dB, dB or 0 dB. You can also specify the cutoff frequency of the LFE channel's low-pass filter which can be used to filter out unwanted hum. Equalizer: Using the receiver's built-in electronic 7-band equalizer, you can adjust the tone of speakers individually.
THX utilizes stringent standards that ensure movies are reproduced in movie theaters and home theaters just as the director intended. Stereo, Dolby and DTS Listening Modes: This receiver incorporates a powerful and highly accurate bit DSP processor and a wide variety of listening modes to bring you maximum enjoyment from your audio and video software. The listening modes include:. Note: You can assign a default listening mode to each input source that will be selected automatically when you select each input source.
Combination Surround Modes: You to choose from the following combination surround modes:. Center Image: In the DTS Neo:6 Music mode, the Center Image feature adjusts the output of the left and right channels relative to the center channel, allowing you to make the center channel more or less dominant as needed. This improves the image of the center channel, especially when the listener is off-center.
Re-Equalization Circuitry: Re-EQ re-equalization corrects a soundtrack with high frequency response that's too harsh, compensating for the fact that sound mixed for large theaters may sound too bright when played back through speakers in the home environment. This can be set to either On or Off. Bass and Treble: You can adjust the bass and treble for the front speakers.
Limiting the dynamic range makes it easier to find a volume that ensures the quiet sounds are not too quiet and the loud sounds are not too loud for night time listening. The choices are: Off, Low, and High. Note: This feature only works with Dolby Digital Encoded software and the depth of the feature will vary based on the individual software package.
This feature eliminates the inconvenience of manually readjusting the volume control each time you switch from a source with a weak signal to a source with a strong signal and vice versa. Volume Setup: The receiver volume can be configured in the following ways:. Name Edit: You can enter a custom name for each individual input selector and radio preset for easy identification.
During bi-amping, the receiver is able to drive up to a 5. Multi-room Capability: You can use three speaker systems with the TX-NR receiver - a surround-sound speaker system up to 7. The zone 2 and 3 outputs allow you to enjoy one source in your main listening room, while other sources play in remote rooms.
Depending on how you configure the receiver, using Zone 2 will require an additional monitor, amplifier and speakers, a set of powered speakers, or simply a set of non-powered speakers located in a remote location.
You can also connect a pair of speakers to the receiver's dedicated Zone 2 speaker terminals and simultaneously power a 5. When the Zone 2 speaker terminals are turned on, the Surround Back speaker outputs do not work.
When the Zone 2 speaker terminals are off, the Surround Back speaker outputs work as normal. The Zone 2 speaker output volume setting can be controlled with the remote. Only analog sources can be played in Zone 2 or Zone 3. Zone 3 requires an additional amplifier and speakers or a set of powered speakers to listen to a different 2-channel stereo source in another room while still playing 2-channel audio in Zone 2 and multi-channel audio in your main room Zone 3 does not offer speaker terminal connection.
Sleep Function: From the remote, you can set the unit to automatically turn off after as much as 90 minutes or as little as 10 minutes; choices are presented in minute increments. Display Dimmer: The display illumination includes the green alphanumeric display and a blue ring around the volume knob.
You can dim the display as follows: Normal and Volume light on, Normal and Volume light off, Dim and Volume light off, and Dimmer and Volume light off. Lock Setup: With this feature, you can protect your settings by locking the setup menus. You can enter URLs including those for podcasts directly into your computer's web browser, or you can enter them with your remote control.
The TX-NR's user-friendly interface lets you easily access and store your favorite channels. Each folder may contain up to music files and folders may be nested up to eight levels deep. Note: USB digital audio signals are not output by the receiver's digital outputs when playing music files. Server Requirements: The AV receiver can play digital music files stored on a computer or media server and supports the following technologies.
For best results, a Base-TX switched Ethernet network is recommended. The remote is pre-programmed to operate Onkyo components. Also, the remote can learn up to 90 commands from infrared remotes of other components. A joystick button simplifies menu navigation and doubles as an enter button.
Macros: Three macros can be programmed to perform a sequence of actions with just one button press. Each macro button can perform up to 8 commands. Input and Output Notes. Front Panel: The unit's front panel connections are located behind a manual fold-down door.

Mat R Guy said:. I only ask as it is the only thing I have which plays CDs and connects via optical. Crustyloafer said:. I have not tried it with a PS3 but can't see any reason why it wouldn't work.
On my PS3 I used the optical out and connected to optical 1 on the GeJe Standard Member. Thanks for this thread, but where to find the main 1. Links given there are only for the DSP if I understand clearly. I'm interested in the main 1.
GeJe said:. I do not currrently have a copy of the main firmware version 1. I will PM you with details of where you can request a copy. Once you get it if you could forward a copy of it to me I will host it and it it to this thread for others.
I am not even sure what kind of firmware it has and needs. I defiantly need to fix dts mt hd bomb. Which I experienced last night while watching AVP. I would love to fix the delay from sky as well which is really annoying.
The 'Target Unit' is the unit you are appying the update to, ie your The enter button is underneath the flip down front panel to the left of the Setup mic socket, it is the one markeed' Enter' Could you please forward me a copy of that file so that I can host it and add to to the list of available downloads in this thread. You can send it to [email protected].
Sniper Active Member. Best Regards, Sniper. That should do the job nicely. Digital Tench Banned. Since the noise the bomb makes could potentially cause damage to your equipment I would most certainly do this update.
It is worht doing anyway for peace of mind. As the PS3 does all the decoding internally before outputting the audio to the receiver it is not affcted by this bug. I checked me dsp and too the pdf posted it seems on my the dsp1 only needs updating and i have the hdmi 1. Yes, that is correct, that is why it is also labelled as 'IN 1' meaning it is Optical Input 1.
I don't believe it matters. I would still advise applying the update to make sure that all the DSPs are up to date. Don't you think it would be a good idea to make sure you can receive replies before sending PMs to other people.
I was most annoyed at having spent the time to reply to your message only to have the system tell me that I could not send it to you. Any chance someone has the firmware files to take my from 1. Taomyn Active Member. Managed to do the Main firmware update on my from 1. For those needing to use a USB cable in my experience those based on the Prolific chipset are the most stable and compatible. However, the DSP upgrade isn't going so well.
I switch off, it clears and I'm back to factory defaults. I've confirmed that the is receiving audio from the correct optical-in by playing an audio CD, tried 2 different optical cables and burnt the audio CD 3 times. I'm out of ideas.
Tomorrow I will ask friends if they have an old CD with optical I can borrow - this is a crazy way to update. Why didn't they use the RS like with the Main firmware.
In the meantime, I'm open to any suggestions, TIA. You must log in or register to reply here. Similar threads U. Rollback Firmware, For the onkyo amps that have no sound. Replies 8 Views 4K. May 25, lemonadeapple. Replies 1 Views 1K.
